Michael has established himself as one of the UK's most versatile actors, both onstage and screen. With a career that spans from film and television, to Classical, Modern and Musical Theatre.
On film he is known for his roles in THE BANK JOB, THE RIOT CLUB and as the Factory Foreman in the Oscar winning film of LES MISÉRABLES. On TV, his portrayal of Myles Standish in the U.S. TV movie SAINTS AND STRANGERS gained him rave reviews. He also played Phamer McCoy, in the Emmy and Golden Globe winning series HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS starring Kevin Costner and Bill Paxton.
On stage he has earned great acclaim working with many of the best theatre companies in the UK, playing London's West End and touring the world. Highlights include working at the Donmar Warehouse, playing Puck in A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM at Shakespeare's Globe, a season with The Royal Shakespeare Company in THE CANTERBURY TALES, and in 2003 he was nominated for Laurence Olivier Award for his leading role as Joe Casey in Tim Firth's and Madness' OUR HOUSE, when he was twenty two years old.
Michael trained with the National Youth Music Theatre and earned his degree at the Guildford School of Acting. He grew up in Hull, East Yorkshire. He's married to the stage actress Caroline Sheen and they have a daughter together called Flora.
